Wat gebeurt er allemaal na login?

  • Ik draai Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy. Bij het opstarten verschijnt GDM en kan ik inloggen. Na het inloggen krijg ik een leeg scherm met muiscursor. De muis kan ik bewegen, verder niets. Hij hangt!

    Het vreemde is dat dit niet gebeurt wanneer ik mijn wireless netwerk kaart (pcmcia) uit de laptop laat bij het opstarten. Dan verschijnt direct na het inloggen GNOME.

    Er schijnen meer mensen dit probleem te hebben. Ik wil graag kijken waar het in zit, maar hoe kom ik erachter wat er na dat inloggen allemaal gebeurt? Een van de dan opgestarte processen moet tenslotte blijven hangen, lijkt mij. Kan ik ergens in bijv. een configfile vinden wat er allemaal gebeurt?

    Dat kan bijna niet, want vóórdat GDM met het inlogscherm verschijn, wordt de kaart al gestart. De LEDs gaan branden, en Ubuntu synchroniseert de tijd via internet (deze actie geeft OK, als ik de kaart er bij het opstarten uit laat geeft deze actie FAILED).

    Als ik de kaart eruit laat, kan ik gewoon inloggen. Plaats ik de kaart daarna, dan worden de drivers gewoon geladen en start het netwerk. Het irritante is alleen dat wlan0 dan nog op actief gezet moet worden en dat kan weer alleen root.

    Dat betekent dat de computer een andere hostnaam krijgt.
    Dat heeft voor X als gevolg dat de X-server onder de oude hostnaam draait, en de X-toepassingen onder de nieuwe hostnaam worden gestart.
    Dat laat de X-server niet toe, waardoor de desktop niet wil doorstarten
    Of dat idd het probleem is weet ik niet, aangezien je meldt dat de wireless al is gestart voordat de grafische omgeving (dus de X-server) wordt gestart.

    Andere mogelijkheid is dat Gnome een bepaald achtergrondprogramma wil laden wat de boel ophoudt..

    Het commando [b:ad0d80be4d]tail -f /var/log/messages[/b:ad0d80be4d] of [b:ad0d80be4d]dmesg[/b:ad0d80be4d] kan je mogelijk meer uitsluitsel geven.

  • Ik ondervind een soortgelijks fenomeen met FreeBSD 5.4 en KDE 3.4.

    Computer met vaste netwerkkaart (pci) en een breedbandverbinding.Als er problemen zijn bij de provider of met mijn router, en er wordt geen ip-adres toegekend bevriest de computer bij de startup.Als alles 'OK' is (gelukkig in 99% van de gevallen) start alles netjes op.

    Voordien werktte ik met redhat,bij soortgelijke problemen treuzelde die bij de startup…gaf status Failed[/color:b631dda7ec] aan achter eth0 networkcard en startte verder op.
    Hier kon ik dus verder werken zonder netwerk…om één of andere reden kan dat niet met bovenstaande?
