Geforce2 gts/pro en ubuntu

  • hoi iedereen, Ik probeer om een Nvidea Gforce2 GTS/pro aan de praat te krijgen onder Ubuntu. (8.04 maar upgraden is geen probleem) De resolutie is geen probleem want die krijg ik gewoon keurig op het goede niveau. Alleen de 3d versnelling werkt niet en zodoende werkt compiz ook niet... nu heb ik geprobeerd de kaart aan de gang te krijgen met: - EnvyNG: hier mee kreeg ik geen 3d versnelling - Ik las ergens dat ik de: 71.86.09 driver nodig had dus heb ik die geprobeerd te installeren van: [url]http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_x86_71.86.09.html[/url] maar hierna kreeg ik het bericht dat Ubuntu in low graphics mode draaide. -en ik heb de: Systeem>Beheer>Hardware drivers geprobeerd, maar de driver daar geeft ook geen 3d versnelling (ieder geval de Uiterlijk voorkeuren>visuele effecten krijg ik niet aan de praat) wat kan ik nog meer proberen of moet ik het probleem zoeken in bijv. de ect>x11>xorg.conf??? ik heb dit nognooit eerder gedaan dus alle hulp is welkom!!, bedankt!, priegelaar

Post een eventuele output hier.   • Ik heb vandaag het één en ander kunnen uitproberen op twee oude test PC's. Ik heb zelf weliswaar geen Nvidia Gforce2 GTS/pro. Maar wel een Geforce 4 Ti en een Viper V770 Ultra. De eerste is nieuwer. De tweede is ouder dan jouw videokaart. Die Viper V770 Ultra heeft een TNT2/ TNT2 Pro chipset, en gebruikt daardoor dezelfde nvidia driver versie als jou videokaart. Ik heb die Viper V770 Ultra kunnen uitproberen op mijn dual Pentium 3 PC. In Ubuntu 8.04.2 wordt er via Systeem>Beheer>Hardware drivers slechts één nvidia driver aangeboden. Namelijk versie 71.68.04. (Ook na de updates te hebben geïnstalleerd, is dat nog het geval.) Na de reboot toont glxinfo dat direct rendering op yes staat. En glxgears geeft ongeveer 998.000 FPS. Alleen als ik de visuele effecten op Normaal zet, verschijnt de melding: Bureaublad-effecten kon niet worden ingeschakeld. Op de andere oude PC een AthlonXP 1700+ was het resultaat hetzelfde. Bij de Geforce 4 Ti videokaart waarvoor via Systeem>Beheer>Hardware drivers versie 71.86.xx beschikbaar is, kon na het activeren ervan en de reboot, wel de visuele effecten worden ingeschakeld. Had je het installeren van de video driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.09-pkg1.run van de nvidia website wel geïnstalleerd volgens de instructies op http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/71.86.09/README/README Dus installeren terwijl de X server niet actief is.

The 96.43.05 Nvidia Linux graphics driver will ignore this GPU ik heb waarschijnlijk eerst de Nvidia driver geïnstalleerd (en daar bij ook het Nvidia control panel) en toen het bewerken van de xorg.conf file niet lukte heb ik via: systeem -> beheer -> hardware drivers de driver geinstalleerd die daar werd aangeboden. die driver werkt dus blijkbaar ook met het Nvidia control panel maar geeft geen glx..... bedankt voor de reactie!, priegelaar
  • De foutmelding die je citeerde gaf aan dat je de nvidia legacy-driver moet gebruiken. Da's een speciale driver voor oudere videokaarten die door de huidige nvidia-driver niet worden ondersteund.

  • Ik denk dat je voor die Gforce2 GTS/pro de beste kansen hebt met de drivers van de nvidia website zelf. Dus versie 71.86.09. Had je daarna die /var/log/nvidia-installer.log nog gecheckt? Op het Engelstalige Ubuntu forum in een thread over onderwerp [url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=478489]Problems loading glx module[/url] wijst actionix op ontbrekende symbol links. Dat zou je voor alle zekerheid kunnen checken. Verder denk ik dat je er rekening mee moet houden dat het nvidia GLX probleem met je Gforce2 GTS/pro wellicht niet op te lossen is. Ikzelf ga er inmiddels vanuit dat minimaal een geforce 4 of nieuwer nodig is voor 3d versnelling. Met zo een videokaart kan het dan weer wel via Systeem > Beheer > Hardware drivers.

(Bureaublad-effecten kon niet worden ingeschakeld) veel dank voor de goede tip, priegelaar p.s. het nvidea control panel geeft nu ook de glx tab goed weer.
